A form of brilliant complexion and the hue of a champa flower, your anklets tinkle while riding your lion, as you set out like a warrior ready to protect all devotees. Dance of Shakti' is an Odissi Dance and Sacred Poetry performance dedicated to expressing the resilience, beauty, and power of the feminine. In 'Dance of Shakti' dancers from varied backgrounds and cultures, come together to create a ritual performance, re-birthing ancient art into the timeless present. Through dance, we find a renewed connection to all that is sacred, uniting sensuality and spirituality into a tapestry of power, grace, and peace. Odissi dance originated in the tantric temples of Odisha, India over 2000 years ago. It was traditionally offered as a sacred ritual to cultivate a connection with the divine. Odissi exquisitely portrays the beauty of the sacred feminine and reflects the spiritual culture of ancient India. 'Dance of Shakti' premiered on October 8, 2022, in the Museum of Asian Art, Lisbon, Portugal. Our first show was a joint production of Jiya (founded by Chantelle Gomez) and Revital Carroll of Shakti Bhakti.
