Durga Stuti
~ Odissi Immersion Italy ~
May 5th-14th 2023
Spend 10 days learning Durga Stuti, in the classical dance form of Odissi at Devī Kutir, located on the outskirts of Rome. Original choreography by Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra and music by Sri Debasish Sarkar. This choreography will be taught with three different schools of Odissi in mind: Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra, Nrityagram and Guru Mayadhar Raut.
By the end of the course you will be well versed in the music composition, choreography, abhinaya, ritual and bhava, along with the physical and energetic components of the dance. Handouts and music are included - for your Durga Stuti journey of practice and performance.
Durga Stuti is a very deep and complex dance, this immersion is only for those who already have a strong foundation in Odissi and who want to further their technique and abhinaya through learning Durga Stuti. You will need to submit an Odissi video of yourself along with your application.

Your eyes are the shape of lotus petals, your third eye the seat of intuition.
A form of brilliant complexion and the hew of a champa flower, and anklets sound while riding your lion, ready to protect.
In your hands are 10 weapons, used to destroy the ego and pave the path to the divine love.
My respects to Shakti who nourishes and protects the planted seed of bhakti.
Lodging
All accommodations are clean, cozy and safe, with fresh drinking water and lush gardens where you can enjoy the perfect spring weather and wild flower fields, that the Italian countryside has to offer. They include WIFI, bedding, washing machines & drying racks.
Devī Kutir has a fully furnished dorm style apartment that sleeps 4 persons. It includes one bedroom (sleeps 2) and one upstairs loft (sleeps 2). There is one shared bath, living room & well equipped kitchen.
Off-site accommodations are fully furnished apartments (sleeps 2) that include: one bedroom & living room that sleeps one person each. In each apartment is one shared bath and a well equipped kitchen. These apartments are a 10 minute bike ride/20 minute walk in nature, from Devī Kutir (bikes will be provided if necessary).
Meals
Wholesome, healthy vegetarian meals of breakfast & lunch are included, dinners will be on your own, with the exception of the first dinner on the evening of your arrival. All apartments have fully equipped kitchens with a stove, refrigerator, cooking utensils, etc.
Travel
Included is one pick up/one drop off at Cesano Station which is the closest station to Devi Kutir.
More details on arrival/departure will be shared with you after applying.
While filling out the application you will have the option of selecting airport pickup/drop off for an additional cost.
